4 commitments to make a real impact on the environment

At PortAventura we know that having fun and being aware of the world around us are equally important. For this reason, every day we work to be fairer, more supportive, and more sustainable. Today we’re going to tell you about some of the commitments that we have made to the environment that you may not be aware of.

We are recyclers, and proud of it

It is very important to us to make sure that all waste from the park is recycled in order to minimise PortAventura’s environmental impact. Therefore, we have a great plan in place to make sure this happens:

Plastics:
They are processed through a recovery system to make them into new plastic products.
Glass:
Used glass is turned into new containers. It's not magic, it's recycling!
Cardboard:
You would be amazed at how many times our paper is recycled and turned back into paper or cardboard.
Organic waste:
We compost this waste and use it as fertiliser.
Other:
It is converted into fuel for factories. Incredible, right?
Cans:
The metal is used to make new cans and other metal products.

Last Christmas, we were able to reflect our commitment in a Christmas tree made from recycled and recyclable bottles thanks to the collaboration of our partner Veri. Breathtaking, wasn’t it? And sustainable! If you want to know more, take a look at our blog.

 

Committed to the fight against food waste

We fight against food waste both in our hotels and restaurants, and in what our entire team eats.  We follow three very simple rules that may help you too:

  • Don't eat with your eyes. In simpler terms, don't choose anything that you don't intend to eat.

  • Start with small amounts. If you're still hungry, you can always go back for more.

  • If there is food left on your plate, save it for later.

We protect biodiversity

At PortAventura we are conscious of the need to protect and look after biodiversity. For this reason, we pay special attention to the colony of house martins that we have in the park. These birds play a very important role in environmental function. They are excellent indicators of air and water quality in the places where they can be found. Is this really the first time you’ve heard about these PortAventura World inhabitants ?

This is only the beginning
